The Death of Glee birth of Glide

So it has come to pass that the station formerly known as Glee FM has slipped from the airwaves.
If nothing else it may prove that there is a god after all.
RIP Glee and good luck Glide, whatever the hell glide is, I mean glide, glide what the hell is that?
Oh don't get me started again! Although give them credit, when I listened to Glide FM they were playing Elbow which can't be all bad. Clever marketing on Jack/passions part so credit where credit's due.

More soon ....

Glee

Dear God, what is happening to our beloved radio?
Whilst Glee radio in Oxford has succeeded in gaining much free publicity by launching this trend, what does it say about the state of radio in this country? Does this mark a dumbing down of the airwaves? Is it simply succeeding on the back of someone elses success? I have nothing against the entire American Glee culture, I don't pretend to understand it or see its lovely fluffy appeal but each to their own. It used to be that if you went into some shops, you would be subjected to dodgy reworks of classic songs sung by generic rock/pop singers. Everyone used to cringe and take the p*** yet here we are with exactly the same on tap every day on the airwaves. That's not progress is it? It is true that by reworking tracks such as Journeys "Don't stop believing"it has introduced a new audience to some classic tracks and relaunched sales of forgotten bands. But how bloody sad that we have to devote an entire station to it! It will be interesting to see how this little stunt works with the RAJAR results, and I don't mean the first set of results either, it's the second set of results which will give an indication of peoples real opinion of the station. Once the novelty and restricted play list have worn off what then?
In the mean time, can someone find the balls and the funding to try something truly ground breaking in radio that isn't a cheap stunt. I'm surprised that the board of Jack have stooped to this, or is it a case of having a spare station and needing to play something, anything, just to keep it running?
Your opinions?

Ok so here we go!

So an action packed day...
Finished pricing a job this morning and delivered it to make bloody sure it arrived. Then off to the first site which turned out to be a complete waste of time since everybody had buggered off for materials. I found a note saying gone for gear back soon. Then realised the time and that I had agreed to pick my daughter and a friend up and drop them in Oxford, ahead of attending a talk on alternative energy at 10:30. Consequently, I had to move it!

Talking of alternative energy, I am trying so hard not to use the air con in my truck at the moment! Without wishing to sound bloody tight, it just drinks fuel! I must do half the mileage to the gallon that I would usually do with the aircon off. So I've started rationing the air con to just the times when I'm sitting in traffic and not the time i'm driving normally. Thus I drive around sweating my bollocks off and sit in the traffic in cool calm serenity. So back to the talk on PV and Solar panels, which was......er.....interesting although didn't learn much more than I knew already. Although I did pick up some pens, drill bits and note paper which I could burn at home and heat the water if things got really bad! Oh, by the way, did i dream it or was there a story on the mid morning news about a paragliding donkey? Slightly surreal i know, which is why I thought I might have imagined it.

So this afternoon we hit costco. I usually nip in on my own when i'm passing but after the last visit when I came out with more toilet rolls, paper towels, tinned tomatoes and bottled water than you could shake a stick at, my wife decided that I should be accompanied. TBH, we do still have enough loo rolls and water to support an army at home.....oh and tomatoes, but you never know whats around the corner. So todays mission was for disposable cups and spoons, and boy did we buy a lot of spoons. this stems from the fact that none of the people who work for me can be arsed to wash up and it was becoming a problem! So unfortunately it has to be the disposable route which is all bad! Anyway......shit is that the time? I'm supposed to be somewhere else...
